By: Henry LeCompte On October 22nd of 2018, Google released the Google Home Hub. Google claims that it will be the center of your smart home. The Home Hub has two microphones on the top with an ambient light sensor in the middle to change the display brightness based on the lighting. The Home Hub has a 7” touchscreen display in a body with a weight of 16.9 oz (1.06 lb), a height of 4.65”, a width of 7.02”, and a depth of 2.65”. The speaker in the Home Hub is a full range speaker, but according to Cnet “The sound quality is fine for background music, but nowhere near the level of other smart displays like the Amazon Echo Show or the JBL Link View”. The Home Hub also does not have a camera, so unlike the Amazon Echo Show or the Facebook Portal there is no video calling feature on the Hub. For a smart home system, it is compatible with a ton of other products including August locks, Nest thermostats, Ring cameras, and Netgear routers. For a smart home device the Home Hub has a lot of potential, but in my opinion, it is not good for anything other than a smart home hub and certainly won’t be anything comparable to the Echo Show.
